HISTORY OF THE MODERN HISTORY OF CHHATTISGARH
Bhaskar Pant, who served as the military chief of the Maratha Dynasty, successfully defeated King Raghunath Singh of the Kalchuri dynasty during his Bengal expedition in 1741 AD.
During that period, the Kalachuri dynasty experienced a decline in power, and the Kalachuri king was deeply distressed due to the loss of his beloved son.
In terms of maratha rule in Chhattisgarh we can classified into Five parts....
1. Indirect rule of maratha in Chhattisgarh (1741-1758 AD)
2. Direct rule of maratha through bimbaji Bhosle (1758 - 1787 AD)
3. Suba rule in Chhattisgarh ( 1787 - 1818 AD)
4. Rule of British Superintendent on behalf of maratha king raghu ji third(1818-1830 AD)
5. Rule of raghujj third through jilhedar( 1830-1854 AD)
INDIRECT RULE OF MARATHA(1741-1758 AD)
Following their victory over the Kalachuri, the Marathas appointed Raghunath Singh as king under their dominion. Upon his demise in 1745 AD, his nephew, Mohan Singh, succeeded him as the leader of the Ratanpur branch of the Kalachuri until 1758 AD. Similarly, Amar Singh held the distinction of being the final monarch of the Raipur branch of the Kalachuri.
DIRECT RULE OF MARATHA THROUGH BIMBAJI BHOSLE (1758 AD - 1787 AD)
BIMBAJI, a prince of the Bhosle dynasty, was assigned the administration of Chhattisgarh. He subsequently established an independent court in Ratanpur, formed his own military, and retained all collected taxes rather than remitting them to Nagpur.
He is committed to the welfare of Chhattisgarh. During his leadership, he supervised the construction of a Ram temple in Chhattisgarh and the renovation of the Dudhadhari math in Raipur, in addition to allocating several villages for revenue generation. He contributed golden leaves during the Dashhara festival. He was married to Ramabai, Anadi Bai, and Uma Bai.
He consolidated the administrations of Raipur and Ratanpur and subsequently established two new zamindari estates: Rajnadgaon and Khujji.
He established the Pargana system in Chhattisgarh, replacing the Garh system. However, its implementation was carried out by Vittal Rao Dinkar.
Upon his passing in 1787 AD, the people of Chhattisgarh experienced a period of mourning. Following his demise, Anandi Bai assumed governance in Chhattisgarh on behalf of Chiman Ji. Chiman Ji, the adopted son of Bimbaji Bhosle, was responsible for the establishment of the Shiva temple in Sirpur.
